Vintage Bridal Photo Shoot

It's a bit of a long story so I'll try and paraphrase. Myself and several other creatives in the wedding industry and beyond decided to collaborate in designing a vintage style bridal photo shoot. The main objective was to create one-of-a-kind images showcasing the amazing talent that Northern Michigan has to offer.

The great minds behind the shoot were none other than Alicia Caldecott from A Day In May Event Planning and Design, Megan Scott from Hitch Design, Marla Courtney Wood fromFlowers By Marla Courtney Wood, Wendy Buhr-Dorman of Ella's Vintage and Retro Apparel, Shari Stelzer from Grace Salon, Cammie Buehler and Andy Schudlich of Epicure Catering were responsible for the stunning location Cherry Basket Farm. An extra high-five goes to Mike Gilger who is a photographer and new member of the Cory Weber Photography family. He is responsible for several of the images you see from this shoot.

With all the work that goes into maintaining a photography business, it's easy to lose sight of what it is that inspired me to become a photographer in the first place, making art! This project was revitalizing for me in many ways. It stretched me creatively as well as personally and I am eternally grateful to all those who contributed in bringing this all together.

My Family ROCKS!!!

A few days after the devastating earthquake in Haiti the Army's 82nd Airborne Divisions (my older brother's division) was sent to help distribute food and water, secure the airport and provide security for the Haitians. My family and I have been scouring the news waiting to catch a glimpse and finally it happened! Here is great photo of my older brother William distributing food to the obviously elated Haitian people. He looks like such a serious guy here but I'm sure he was just trying to gauge whether or not he was going to be overrun like Bob Barker! It's not everyday you can make so many people this happy and I am very proud of him and his wonderful wife and kids that have sacrificed so much to help these people in their time of need.

The other great news this week is that my little brother Ben will be arriving back in the States from his second tour in Iraq. It's emotionally exhausting to know that one of your family members is continually in harms way and I'm so happy he will be returning home safe and sound.

HGTV shoot

Last winter I was asked to photograph the set for the HGTV show Carter Can. He was in his home town of Traverse City doing a couple of shows for the Holidays. The shows were all about giving back to the people in our community who look out for others above all else.

This is by no means a typical photo shoot for me but how often do you get to be a part of a T.V. show? I just had to do it!

Marin is one year old already! I am amazed

to see her walking across the house like a little autonomous person. On one hand it feels like only yesterday that she was totally dependent us for everything yet to see the things she is capable of doing, it's amazing that she is only one year old. I always knew I would love being a dad but I had no idea that I would be so head-over-heels in love with this little wee-nut.

I had a nice surprise this week, Brides Magazine asked me to submit an image for one of their upcoming issues. They were looking for an iconic photo that is a personal favorite of mine as well as a short explanation as to why the image is special to me.

Here is the image they ended up choosing for publication.

An August 2008 wedding at Ciccone Vineyards in Suttons Bay, MI. An image that is a culmination of many elements: spectacular light, a beautiful location, and a completely in-Love Bride and Groom. It's the caliber of image that I set out to create every time I pick up up my camera.

Our New Baby!. . . . Marin Attie Weber

Friday at 1:33 am, I was awoke to Annie telling me "get up, my water broke!". We went from zero to active labor in a matter of minutes!

We decided a while back to have our baby at home. Although this was our first pregnancy we were very confident about the labor process and felt a home birth would best suit our needs. In attendance was Ann's mom who was once a mid-wife, Kathi (our mid-wife), Rory (Ann's cousin and Kathi's apprentice). Each of them played a hugely pivotal role in the 8 hour birth process which ended at 9:18 am on Friday the 5th of December. Although things went very smoothly we could not have done it without each of their individual skills and attributes.

I am without words to describe how it feels to be a daddy, all I can say is that I will go to no end to keep my girls (Annie too) safe, loved, and well photographed. They are the center of my universe.

Any day now we are havin' our first baby! We are eight and a half months along now and we are ready to go at a moments notice. Annie is doing so great with everything, she's gonna be such an awesome mommy. I'l be sure to keep everyone updated with photos when he or she arrives (we are kinda old school and don't know what we are having). I'm totally gonna be the daddy who takes a million pictures of his kids, I can't wait!

P.S. I know I am severely biased, but I really think Annie is the most beautiful woman ever.

I had to travel a bit for Kristin and Tony's wedding. They got hitched in East Lansing which happens to be one of my favorite towns (I married a Spartan). With a ceremony in an amazing church, a bus tour of campus and "points of interest", to top it all off the reception was at the Botanical Gardens on Michigan State's campus. A ton of fun for all!

It was truly my honor to photograph this wedding not just because of the great photo opportunities (heartfelt ceremony in Leland at the Old Art Building, Lake Michigan beaches, boat ride to the reception, and three live musical acts including Adam's band Soul Patch) but also because this wedding was so honest and free of pretense. I was approached recently by Brides Michigan Magazine and asked for a submission of images for the upcoming Fall/Winter issue! This is a huge deal and I am ecstatic!

I submitted images from a wedding I shot last August, Heidi and Merritt. Such a unique, country picnic wedding, it was and easy choice for the editors at Brides. In honor of their anniversary I have posted some images that the magazine may be using.

Rollin' Thunder

Summer is fast approaching, and with it come those fast moving thunder storms that remind us just how insignificant we are when compared to the mighty forces of nature. These photos were taken from West Grand Traverse Bay, facing Traverse City. This huge system moved across the sky at around 50 or 60 miles per hour. You can see that within a few minutes the clouds have blocked out the stars.

This image was taken last year from the south end of Elk Lake. This storm brought with it an amazing lightning show, the likes of which I had never before seen. Unfortunately it also brought with it a Tornado that took a man's life.

The first Engagement Session of the year went really well. We only had about a half an hour to shoot but I feel pretty satisfied with how it went down. My brother Robin is about to graduate. He has been attending school at the adult work center for many years now and it is finally time for him to hit the road runnin'. False Alarm. . . .

On day last week I was driving home and saw a huge plume of smoke rising into the sky. Curious as I usually am, I drove over to see what was going on. It turns out that an old farm near my house was able to do a controlled burn in a field next to their barn. They were making a new pasture for the horses. At any rate it made for some serious imagery, it looks much more dramatic than it was

Mrs. Weber and I have had a hankerin' for a drive-and-hike trip. We start with the drive since my homeland of Leelanau County is about a half an hour from where we live. Call me set in my ways but on days like this I can't think of a better place to visit. Pyramid Point is part of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and offers an awe-inspring experience that should not be missed by anyone who wants to see all that Northern Michigan has to offer.

Of course we brought the dog pack with us as usual (Dugan the collie and Timber the brown muttly one).

Spring Has Sprung!

We have enjoyed some beautiful weather the past couple of days. We went from having snow everywhere to a huge melt off and I was even able to find my first flower of the year. It may seem obvious to say but, after a harsh winter, the color that flowers add to the outdoors is certainly taken for granted. It is so amazing to see the similarities humans have with the flora and the fauna. At first chance we all rush to absorb as much of the warmth and sunlight that each lengthening day has to offer.

As a benefit of the recent time change here in northern Michigan we are able to take advantage of one more hour of daylight in the evenings.

A tour of Old Mission Peninsula was in order.

It's been a while since I was last out there and it was great to visit again.

Summer Vacation To Canada

I was reminded recently of a trip my wife Ann and I took to a lesser know place in Canada called A-Ga-Wa Bay. It's part of the Lake Superior Provincial Park in Ontario and is located on the eastern most part of the largest fresh water lake in the world, Lake Superior. The wind was crazy, the waves coming off the lake were about eight feet tall.

We drove from our hometown of Elk Rapids through the Upper Peninsula, past Sault Saint Marie, following the shoreline past Batchawana Bay, finally arriving at the A-Ga-Wa Bay campground.

The whole trip was about 5 or 6 hours in total. There were so many amazing sights to see along the way not mention the scenery once we arrived within the park.

This place is extremely difficult to get to unless you have a 4x4 or are willing to abuse your car.

It is called Gargantua and is a small bay totally secluded and remote and can only be seen in person to describe it's splendor. I can't wait to get back for more.

It's a Boy!

Garrett Finnigan O'Donnell was born February 7, 2008. I was so happy to be able to visit with my brother-in-law Ray, his wife Dana and tiny Garrett this past weekend.

Of course I HAD to squeeze in this quick photo shoot with the little guy.

Newborns chunk out so quick so it's crucial get photos of infancy within two or three weeks. (Garret was two weeks)

Dana and Ray are already such great parents, the little man is going to have an awesome childhood.

I can't wait to watch this little guy grow up.

Looking for the spring

I know its only February but as the days slowly get longer and longer I can't avoid the sub-concious countdown to spring. Recalling the first glimpse of flowers poking through the seemingly dead and frozen earth. Case in point: the Trillium one of our first flowers to bloom.

Don't get me wrong, I love winter, it has many redeeming qualities. Here's me in my backyard taking advantage of one of few sunny days.

Dog Party!

If you can imagine for a bit that 30 degrees is actually warm for those who live near the 45th parallel. We do live half way between the North Pole and the Equator, if you think about if my dog Timber (the brown, short haired, Catahoula Leopard Dog) headed south for one quarter of the distance around the earth and my wife Ann's dog Dugan (the Collie) headed North for the same distance they would both probably feel pretty comfortable. So us living where we do is a compromise for our two dogs being slightly miserable during different times of the year. Who says dogs don't own their people.

BREATHTAKING! (in more ways than one)

My wife Ann and I recently went on a sun searching trip to the west side of Leelanau County. Anyone who has spent at least one winter in northern Michigan can attest to the fact that is cloudy at least 95% of the time here during the colder months. Needless to say we were in need of some rays so we hopped in the car and followed the sun. It took us through Traverse City (we were tempted to stop and watch a movie at the newly remodeled State Theater) up M-72 on the west side of town and all way to the quaint little town of Empire. Once we arrived in Empire we meandered through a few side streets until we arrived at the beach. It was blowing a steady thirty miles an hour and was about 20 degrees so we opted to stay in the car and soak up some rays through the windshield. As the sun was about to go down we headed north toward Glen Haven, an abandoned fishing village that has since been acquired by the National Parks Service and is part of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lake Shore. The lighting here was so amazing I couldn't resist the urge to take a few photos. We ended the peaceful evening at Boonedock"s in Glen Arbor, a must for anyone visiting the area.

Here are a few photos from a quick photo shoot I was able to do in to about ten minutes with my brother in-law Ray and his wife Dana while she was about eight and a half months "prego". Look for an update SOON!

Welcome Home Ben!

My brother Sgt. Ben Weber has been serving in Iraq for the past 18 months and has just returned safely home. He's had quite an amazing military career so far and things are just getting started for him. He has been in the Army for under three years and has received a Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, been promoted all the way to Sergeant, and almost given his life to serve his country on numerous occasions all by the age of 21. Welcome home Ben and Thank You!
